Manor Park Platinum Dinghy Appeal 2022

Manor Park Sailing Club launched an appeal in February to raise £16K in funds to buy four adult-sized single-handers to enhance our training and members-for-hire fleet.

Why do we want them?

Manor Park have ten small single-handers and seven 3-person training dinghies, but nothing in-between for both junior and adult solo training. The four new larger robust single-handers will be ideal for junior progression as well as adults. They will also allow parent/child sailing. They are particularly suitable for Covid distancing as more families and trainees are conscious of respecting safe distances.

The larger dinghies will allow the adults to progress rapidly, quickly learning to sail 'solo' all whilst under the watchful eye of the MPSC / RYA certified dinghy instruction team.

When do we want them?

As a lasting tribute to our Queen, the club are making this our Platinum Jubilee Appeal for funds in the hope that the new dinghies will be obtained in time to launch on the lakes in June.

The Club have discussed naming the dinghies as Platinum I, II, III and IV.

What will it cost

Four Hartley 12 Boats, built in the Midlands, cost £16,360 ready to sail with trolley (incl VAT and delivery). Chosen after discussions with the RYA as the best available dinghy for junior and adult sailors; they are a STABLE boat that gives confidence to any novice sailor, with a centreboard fitted (instead of the dagger board), comfortable seating, a dry cockpit, and a high boom.

How will we Fund it

The club will contribute 20% of the cost, equivalent to a year's training fees, and by Easter had already raised over £7,500 towards the Appeal. We are applying to several other funding sources, and have already invited our Club members to contribute.
