Manor Park Platinum Dinghy Appeal 2022
Manor Park Sailing Club launched an appeal in February to raise funds to buy four adult-sized single-handers to enhance our training and members-for-hire fleet.
*** June 2022 - Sponsors and Benefactors have raised a staggering £12,406 ***
Why do we want them?
Manor Park have ten small single-handers and seven 3-person training dinghies, but nothing in-between for both junior and adult solo training. The four new larger robust single-handers will be ideal for junior progression as well as adults. They will also allow parent/child sailing. They are particularly suitable for Covid distancing as more families and trainees are conscious of respecting safe distances. The larger dinghies will allow the adults to progress rapidly, quickly learning to sail 'solo' all whilst under the watchful eye of the MPSC / RYA certified dinghy instruction team. They are a STABLE dinghy that gives confidence to any novice sailor, with a centreboard fitted (instead of the dagger board), comfortable seating, a dry cockpit, and a high boom.
When will we get them?
The Hartley Boat Ltd company are hoping to provide the FOUR Hartley H12 dinghies by the end of this training season, accepting that if there are manufacturing delays, certainly by start of our 2023 sailing season. As a lasting tribute to our Queen in this Platinum Jubilee Year the Club agreed to name them Platinum I, II, III and IV.
How have we funded it?
Your MPSC Committee at meeting 9th June agreed to purchase four Hartley H12 Boats, built in the Midlands, ready to sail with jib and launching trolley (incl VAT and delivery). The meeting agreed to fund any shortfall out of the MPSC funds, especially as Richard Hartley (owner) gave us a staggering 17% discount and agreed to hold the price as originally quoted!
