Adult Sailing Scheme
RYA Adult Sailing Scheme
At MPSC we provide adult training on a Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm (May-August) and Saturday afternoons from 1:30pm to 4:30pm (April-October) with a small break in the middle. These weekly sessions give our sailors time to build skills gradually, practise between sessions, gain confidence and develop a deeper understanding of sailing.
The RYA National Sailing Scheme provides a clear pathway for adults to learn, develop and gain confidence in sailing. Whether you're completely new to sailing or looking to improve your existing skills, the scheme allows you to progress at your own pace in a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment.
Level 1 Start Sailing
Perfect for complete beginners.
Level 1 introduces you to the basics of sailing. You'll learn about the boat and its equipment, how to launch and recover, steer and sail in different directions, and understand the basic principles of how a sailing boat works.
Level 2 Basic Skills
Build confidence and start sailing more independently.
Level 2 develops the skills learnt in Level 1, helping you become more confident and in control of the boat. You'll practise essential manoeuvres such as tacking and gybing, improve your boat handling and begin making your own decisions while sailing in suitable conditions.
Level 3 Better Sailing
Take your sailing to the next level.
Level 3 is about consolidating your existing skills and developing greater confidence in a wider range of conditions. You'll refine your boat handling, improve your sailing techniques and start exploring more advanced skills, preparing you for the RYA's specialist modules and racing pathway.
What comes next?
Once you've completed the core levels, there are plenty of ways to continue developing your sailing. You can explore Seamanship Skills, Day Sailing, Sailing with Spinnakers, move into the RYA racing pathway, or Join our instructor Pathway
You don't have to stop learning after completing a level the RYA pathway is designed to help you keep building skills, confidence and enjoyment on the water.
